Completed in 1938, Kaisaniemenkatu 2b is a significant part of Helsinki’s film history. Since its completion, the building has served as a commercial property, with early tenants including the Bio Metropol cinema. Bio Metropol was part of Helsinki’s vibrant film culture, and its history spans numerous changes over the decades. The cinema later became known as Boston and Formia before eventually becoming Finnkino’s Kinopalatsi.
Today, Kaisaniemenkatu 2b functions as a modern office and commercial property. Located next to Railway Square and directly above the University of Helsinki metro station, the building enjoys excellent public transport connections throughout the Helsinki metropolitan area. All of central Helsinki’s restaurants and services are also within walking distance.
The property offers office space across its top five floors. The cinema operates on the first two floors. The property offers bright and easily adaptable premises that can be tailored to a company’s needs. A pipe and sewer renovation was carried out in the property during 2025, and at the same time, all the toilet surfaces and sanitary fixtures were renewed.
All properties in the Fennia Block have been awarded a BREEAM In-Use Excellent -level certification and they operate on 100% emission-free energy such as wind power and renewable district heating.
The location of the property is excellent. It is right next to the railway station with train, tram and bus connections, and the University of Helsinki metro station is one block away. Tram stops are also a short distance away from the property.
The Fennia Block offers a large number of restaurants and other entertainment services. The central location of the property ensures that all commercial and business services are located within a short walking distance. There is an indoor bike storage as well as locker rooms and showers available for commuter cyclists.
Private cars have access to the Eliel parking facility, which is connected to the Central Railway Station, and the Kluuvi parking facility, which provides direct access to the property through the University of Helsinki metro station.
